What to expect if you're going through women's formal recruitment...
|
|
Women's formal recruitment is a very unique and exciting experience.
You stay in the residence halls during this week and eat at dining halls. A Rho Gamma will be your guide to all of the events that occur during this week. Formal Recruitment is a wonderful way to get your year started – you will have an opportunity to grow close with all of the women going through recruitment on your floor, meet your Rho Gamma, your Residence Hall Advisor as well as other women in your new chapter by the end of the week. You will get a head start on knowing how dining halls work, the campus layout, Pullman and could even escape some lines to buy your books!

You will be shown all of Greek row by a Rho Gamma who will lead your tour group to various chapters. The chapters will all greet you in their own special way, maybe singing or chanting a song that tells a little bit about their chapter, or calling you by name and welcoming you in one by one.

Inside, you'll be offered a beverage (from water on the first day to Italian Sodas or Frappacinos on the last day!) and a place to sit down. You'll have conversations with women from that chapter and after about half an hour, the party will be over and you'll have about ten minutes to write information about the chapter you just visited and go to the next chapter to start your next party.
At the end of Wednesday, after you've visited all the chapters, you'll sit down and think about which chapters felt right for you. From those chapters, each woman will have to narrow it down to eleven chapters, seven on Thursday, four after Friday, and pick one house as your favorite Saturday evening.
Sunday is Bid Day! The day will start with Bid Day Brunch (wear your running shoes!). There you will have a buffet banquet with testimonials and excitement. Your Rho Gamma will hand you an enveloped bid card which you will sit on for the rest of brunch. After the Panhellenic Council and the Rho Gammas reveal their chapter affiliations, you will go from Potential New Member to New Member of your new chapter! You will run to your new home on Greek row and meet your new pledge class, your new sisters and future best friends.
PNM's will move into their residence halls this year Sunday, August 15th. This will be a hectic day of moving in followed by a quick meeting with their Rho Gamma. Early to bed, early to rise, because Monday will be a full day! The schedule for the rest of the week includes breakfasts at 7 a.m. and bed times around 10 p.m.! A full schedule will be available as recruitment gets closer.

What to wear...
|
|
Here is an example of what to wear. Please remember that you will be in a very hot, loud, and crowded house! Some years, recruitment weather is upwards of 100 degrees, and some years it pours down rain. Deodorant is okay, but please, don't wear perfume!
Monday and Tuesday: On the first two days of recruitment, you will be doing the most walking around Greek row and a lot of standing and sitting (in chairs and on the floor!) This day would be a great day for tank tops, tee shirts, shorts and sandals; not skirts, dresses or flip-flops.
Wednesday: The third day of recruitment includes house tours! You will be able to see up to ten sorority houses on this day, which means a lot of stairs and a lot of walking. The attire will be a lot like Monday and Tuesday.
Thursday: Philanthropy day traditionally includes a history of the organizations philanthropy project and some sort of hands-on activity. As the week progresses, the parties get more involved.
Friday: Preference day is a day when sororities often wear high-heels and cocktail dresses. This is a day that highlights on sisterhood and friendship. PNM's often wear sundresses on this day.

6. Once you have completed the external sorority application, you should receive confirmation in your email that you have signed up, and/or confirmation of your payment on your credit or debit card.
